Healing

“You enter the forest
at the darkest point,
where there is no path.

Where there is a way or path,
it is someone else's path.

You are not on your own path.

If you follow someone else's way,
you are not going to realize
your potential.”

Spiritual Healing:

The Sacred Journey

Each of us is called to a Sacred Journey of self-discovery and healing involving the four dimensions of the Self: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Although the journey is your own, it need not be undertaken alone. I offer my skills as an Alexander Technique teacher, energy worker in the Brennan tradition, creative artist, and fellow Seeker to assist you in finding your path.

Tools for the Journey

Archetypes/Stories/Myths/Dreams

Stories of all types shape our lives, but mostly we are unaware of them. Discovering your formative stories is crucial to knowing your True Self. Your stories can come from ones you’ve heard from others, myths of the great cultures of the world, and your own dreams. Often these stories reveal archetypal patterns that are operating in your life. I often use what Jung called “active imagination” to help people discover the Inner Truth that is being revealed through images from these sources.

Finding Your Voice

The human voice is at once a physical instrument and a metaphor for your True Self. My experience teaching voice and the Alexander Technique allows me to guide you into finding greater vocal expression for singing and speaking as well as speaking your deepest Truth—about yourself and your relationship to others and the world around you. In speaking this Truth, you find peace and freedom to be who you truly are.

Energy Work

Balancing and clearing a person’s energy field often has a restorative and revelatory effect not achieved by other means. Energy work can open whole new realms of experience and lead to a greater sense of the Divine in all things. My training has been in Healing Touch © and the work of Barbara Brennan. I approach this work with the assumption that your True Self already knows what you need for your healing journey. Therefore, I guide but do not “prescribe.”

Sessions in energy work allow you to be relaxed and receptive, participating as actively or passively as you wish. At the very least, you leave refreshed and renewed, and many times healing on the physical, emotional, mental or spiritual level happens as well.

The gift of healing rests within everyone. It is not a gift given only to a few. It is your birthright as much as it is mine. Everyone can receive healing, and everyone can learn to heal. Everyone can give healing to themselves and to others.

— Barbara Ann Brennan, Light Emerging (New York: Bantam Books, 1998), p. 3.

Emotional Work

Some of us have no idea that the emotions we are feeling actually can have a purpose: they are messages from some part us that cannot speak in words.

I draw on the work of Karla McLaren in her book, The Language of Emotions, to help you decode these messages and then allow the message to help you heal. Once the message is heard and honored, the emotional distress usually subsides, at least until another message is needed!

In the area of self-care, emotional messages are extremely important. They help you take notice of when your boundaries are being invaded, when someone is not telling the truth, and many other helpful things.

Even if you don’t know what you are feeling or think you don’t have feelings, you can learn this valuable skill.

Healing Sessions

Healing is a broader concept than curing, a distinction not commonly known:

There is a difference between healing and curing. Healing is a natural process and is within everyone. Curing is what doctors are called upon to do . . . Healing goes deeper than curing . . . It addresses the imbalance that underlies the symptoms. Healing brings together the often hidden aspects of a person’s life as they relate to [the] illness. Healing is different from curing, though curing and the restoration of physical function may accompany healing. . . Healing and death are not mutually exclusive.
— Christiane Northrup, M.D., Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom, rev. ed.
(New York: Bantam Books, 1998), p. 41.

Healing sessions offer healing on many levels: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. They are not meant to be a substitute for conventional medical care but are offered as a complement to what the medical community provides. All that happens in these sessions is held sacred and in confidence.

A variety of healing modes, including energy work and the exploration of archetypes through story, myth, and dream, will be employed as the need arises. This is an opportunity for the most in-depth journeying into the Unknown Self, supported and surrounded by Divine Love.
